Ok horror fans… I got some pretty good news. Looks like Scream movie buff, Kirby will be returning to the Scream franchise! Yes you heard right, Hayden Panettiere has been confirmed to reprise her fan-fav role according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Scream 6 is set to begin filming this summer and returning alongside the Heros’ actress are Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega.
If for some reason you haven’t seen Scream 4 or have been living under a rock… beware spoilers ahead!!
The cool and sassy, dope-haircut sporting femme fatale nearly made UT until the end of Scream 4 before being stabbed by Macaulay Culkin’s brother, Rory who played fellow horror film fan and Cinema club member, Charlie. Ironically, Kirby took a liking to him, who also was crushing hard on her towards the film’s 3rd act.
Scream 4 was the final film in the franchise to be directed Wes Craven.
Fans speculated that she survived her stabbing much like Dewey had in prior films. Fans were let down when she hadn’t returned to the series’ 2022 requel, aptly titled Scream or Scream 2022. And most assumed she met the same fate as another nerd/movie buff, Randy as played by Jamie Kennedy.
Although after rewatching the latest flick, it was confirmed she did in fact survive. She is noted on a YouTube thumbnail that character, Richie as played by The Boys actor, Jack Quaid. It’s an uploadedvideo entitled, “Interview with Woodsboro Survivor Kirby Reed!” She also apparently made a missed call to former Deputy turned Sheriff, Dewey earlier in the film.
Unfortunately Dewey, another fan fab and “legacy” character died by way of Ghostface after making the dumb decision of ensuring the killer was dead.
And let’s talk about that!
How and why would a character of this stature, having survived 4 films …er… killing sprees make the dumbest decision ever of getting up close and personal with the killer??Especially with a gun in hand….I know the movie plot had to go on but bro you had the gun in hand! Times like that call for a headshot from a distance!!! And considering who the killers were, I found it hard to believe that he would have been overpowered by Amber’s scrawny ass but hey… I digress.
Needless to say the Scream series tends to pull off these types of kills proving sometimes all bets are off!!
No word if Sidney played by Neve Campbell or Gale Weathers as played by Courtney Cox will return although I would assume they will in some fashion.
